SMARTPHONE FILMING & EDITING TRAINING

Many media professionals, broadcasters and journalists are increasing their use of Smartphones to film News packages, and documentaries. The ability to shoot 4K, ProRes broadcast quality footage using the popular Blackmagic Camera app, makes it a cost effective way of creating content for social media, websites and TV News.

But this isn't just for journalists

Smartphone Filming & Editing is for everyone

Corporate comms teams building in-house video capability

Social media managers handling brand stories

NGO field teams documenting work in remote areas

Academics and educators needing low-cost video training

With the right training, corporate communications teams have the ability to film professional quality videos for their websites, press releases, social media or internal comms without incurring the substantial costs associated with hiring an in-house videographer or freelance camera crews. And journalists gain the freedom to film News events without having to wait for a camera crew to arrive.  Smartphones also offer built in connectivity with the ability to 'go live' or 'publish' immediately.

Editing apps like Adobe Premiere for Mobile allow users to edit on their smartphone or start an edit and then complete it on their laptops. AI features like 'transcript' allow users to quickly cut down interviews and automatically add captions. This saves a lot of time in the edit and is a potential game changer for journalists working in a fast paced News environment.

Julie offers group or 1-on-1 Smartphone training courses that can be tailored from 1-3 days and caters to individualsjournalists, media professionals, corporate comms teams, social media managers, NGO's and educators with little or no filming/editing experience. You'll not only learn the technical skills and the best accessories to use, but also the craft of filmmaking and tips of the trade from a seasoned professional. Julie also demos useful AI tools that can auto edit content using your own scripts and footage, quickly cut down interviews using a transcript and add translations or captions instantly.

The Smartphone Filming & Editing Course is 'in person face-to-face' only which allows Julie to keep the training up to date when new tech and AI functions appear. The courses are mostly held in London but Julie can travel for group sessions.

CAMERA AND EDITING TRAINING

During her 36 years at BBC News, Julie spent 13 years as a Camera and Editing Trainer. She trained 1000's of BBC staff on FCPX editing software via classroom courses and an online tutorial.

In 2017, the BBC started a recruitment drive for new camera crews in their World Service bureaux. Julie was the lead technical recruiter and trainer on this three year project.

Julie was also the 'Camera Lead' for the introduction of the Sony Z280 camera into the Media Operations dept and delivered bespoke Sony Z280 courses to hundreds of BBC News camera crews and picture editors.

Although many filmmakers and videographers favour DSLR style cameras, the camcorder market is still thriving, especially in educational and corporate environments.

Julie offers bespoke one or two day training courses on the Sony Z280 and Sony Z200 cameras. These can be online but are better as face-to-face learning.
